CONSCIOUS CO-PARENTING

THE POWER OF STRIVING FOR THE HIGHEST AND BEST EVEN WHEN FEELING YOUR LOWEST AND WORST.

Hi Wednesday. It’s Sarah.

It’s a great day to be a Luscious Mother. Our team is on fire. We are creating programs and content that will blow your hair back—in the best way possible. We can’t wait to share all the Luscious Goodness! And for starters, Camp Can-A-Mama-Get-A-Minute is SOLD OUT! Boom! This year we have 12 campers, next year we’ll make bunks for 100!

This week, I’m thrilled to talk about a Luscious Mother who isn’t on our team, but rather in my family: my sister-in-law, Jen Olin. Jen is a mom to two wonderful kids and has worked in project management in the senior care industry for as long as I’ve known her. She and her college sweetheart, Fred, divorced about six years ago after 10 years of marriage. Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin famously made conscious uncoupling part of the zeitgeist when they split, and I have never seen this represented more powerfully than with Jen and Fred. Divorce is a bear for everyone involved: the couple, the kids, and even their family and friends who care about the couple and feel that investment in their relationship. Yet Jen and Fred handled the end of their marriage and its fallout with grace, kindness and generosity—three things rarely associated with divorce.

I learned a ton watching the two of them navigate this painful time, and I witnessed Jen in particular demonstrating a concept on which I train business leaders all the time. The concept that the highest and best outcome for one (or for the business), is the highest and best for all. In this case, highest and best meant finding and maintaining the points of contact where the two soon to be former partners can remain linked in purpose and commitment—not to each other, at least not in the way they envisioned, but certainly to their kids, and anyone else in their lives for whom they will both maintain relationships.

The highest and best comes from deep wisdom or knowing within. When I look at Jen, Fred and the kids today, I see them all doing so well. Jen is in a serious relationship with someone she is crazy about. Fred is remarried and probably happier than ever. The kids are thriving. The highest and best is always the highest and best.

Next Thursday night, August 13 at 8pm EDT/5pm PDT, I will be hosting a Facebook live conversation with Jen to discuss co-parenting during Covid, and how her life change has created the highest and best for her family. Join us to have your questions answered and to learn more about successful co-parenting, Covid or no. And please feel free to send your questions in advance to hiluscious@lusciousmother.com.

If you want to hear more about Jen and Fred, check out the podcast on divorce, Welcome to Splitsville, hosted by Leigh Sellers of Touchstone Family Law. Leigh is an amazing woman committed to supporting couples in having a humane and kind divorce experience.

We love you, Mama, and want to support you in every possible way, shape, and form. If you know a mama who is struggling with separation, divorce or co-parenting during Covid, please share this newsletter with her.

With all the love and lusciousness in our hearts,

Sarah + Anna
